Apple Pie Filling

Great for more than just pie, but if you use it for other things, you might want to cook the apples a bit with the sugar and spices first. Add a cornstarch or rice flour slurry to make it thicker, too.

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium apples
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 3 TBSP water
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional)
  • 2 TBSP butter or plant-based alternative.

Directions:

  1. Peel, core, and cut apples into slices or however you want.
  2. Mix in sugar, water, cinnamon and lemon juice. Let sit while you make the crust.
  3. Place butter in small pats all over the pie filling before adding the second crust over it.

Pro Tip:

Replace granulated sugar with brown sugar for a slightly more caramel flavor.
